1. Be Your Own Investigator

Do your research. This is so important, as there is a wealth of information out there to help you manage this condition. Many Doctors out there still believe the fibro doesn’t even exist. It is extremely important to find Physicians that recognize fibromyalgia as a real condition and can help you along the way. You can find a fibro specialist through the National Fibromyalgia Association.

You can join fibro groups to learn from others and what is working for them. We have a private facebook group you can join if you like.

 

2. Exercise through the pain

We have several articles here about fitness and exercising even through fibro pain. The main points are to try to stay low impact and listen to your body. It might be extremely hard somedays to even get out of bed, but anything you can do to start slowly increasing and recondition your muscles will actually help you more than you know. When you exercise your endorphins increase which are your feel good hormones and this alone can help you start to feel better, at least in your mind :) … Make sure to consult with your physician before starting any fitness program.

 

3. Manage your mind

Meditation, deep breathing and other relaxation techniques are crucial to manage fibro pain. Many that suffer from this condition deal with a lot of stress, anxiety and even depression. Taking time to manage your mind and thoughts can help you take back control of these issues. There are even behavioral therapists that specialize in helping you with deep breathing and guided imagery. Just let your doctor know you would like a referral to a therapist experienced with fibromyalgia.

 

4. Take Sleep Seriously

One of the most common and major problems with fibro is that lack of true deep sleep. Even with you sleep for hours most of the time it is not restorative sleep and you can still wake up feeling like you have not had any rest. Most of the sufferers I have talked with recommend to try to clear your bedroom distractions such as work, computers, tablets etc. Also to try to stick with a regular sleep schedule and when possible avoid sleep medications.
