8 ways to help a loved one who has Fibromyalgia

SONY DSCFibromyalgia is a painful condition that affects many. If you have a loved one dealing with fibro here are 8 ways that could really help!

1. Ask, “What do you want me to understand about what you are going through?”

2. Ask, “how are you feeling today? What is your pain level today?” ( No one ever seems to care or ask this unless you are at the ER)

3.  Keep in touch regularly, they will need continued support. Phone calls, emails and text with supportive messages go a long way!

4. Be honest, it is OK to say ” I don’t know what to say, but I am here for you and I love you

5. Ask if they need to vent, let them know they are free to just let it all out to you.

6. Tell them how much you admire their strength for having to deal with everything they go through.

7. Offer to help in small ways. Watch their kids, cook dinner, etc.

8.  Understand that what they could do yesterday they might not be able to do today. Recognize that they can’t help having bad days with their pain and be ok with that.

These are just 8 out of many ways that could help. I would love to hear your thoughts too!
